Looking for eco, all natural deodorants?
Deodorant is one of the first things I switched when moving to a more low tox lifestyle because it can be full of questionable ingredients like aluminium and parabens that I’d personally rather avoid.
Also, beyond that a lot of deodorant is packaged in single-use plastic containers, stuff that’s hard to recycle. Don’t forget, the smaller the container, the more likely it is to get lost in recycling facilities!
How to choose the one for you? Here are a few of our tips...
I always like to check the ingredient labels, and look for things like certified organic, ethical and/or local sourcing, and naturally derived ingredients sourced from plants like trees, clays, etc.
I avoid parabens - you can spot them pretty easily because that’s what words end in. For example a few common ones in beauty products are methylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben, and ethylparaben.
I also avoid aluminum, sulfates, and phthalates.
Also, thoughtful packaging… Packaging is important, but it’s not the only thing that’s important!
There’s a lot of factors to consider when making a purchase. Sourcing, ethically made, workers being paid a fair wage, ingredients.
Packaging, of course, is one of them.
➖Quick note on skin sensitivity…
Lots of natural deos have baking soda, which can irritate sensitive skin so keep that in mind, if that’s your case!
➖Quick not on scent…
Coconut formulas don’t work super well with my body mysteries. I try to avoid that scent, and that’s worked really well for me! So, if you’ve only tried a natural deodorant that didn’t work well for you in that scent, I’d recommend you to try another one...
