Back to School Routine

Back to School Routine

It's almost back to school time and I couldn't be more excited - our first kid is going to school for the first time ever! Eeeeek!!!

I only now realised the amount of stuff that needs to be done (and purchased!) before the big day: uniforms, backpack, pencil cases... to name a few!

But how does one avoid wasting time and money on unnecessary bits? And how will I avoid food waste or any sort of waste really?

I have been spending a great deal of time thinking about school routine and I am pretty sure I have it nailed (most of it, anyway!).

Today I will talk about one thing I am very fond of: Nude food!

Nude food mean less packaging... less packaging generally means less processed foods, less additives, nasties and more simple, natural, whole foods.

It means shopping local, in-season foods.

The team at www.stopfoodwaste.ie say that "Ireland’s mild, wet climate means that we have a long growing season for many vegetables. Sturdy veggies like cabbage, cauliflower and beetroot are in season almost all year round. On the other hand, many Irish berries and fruits are only available for a few months in the summer. Making an effort to include seasonal food in your diet reduces waste higher in the food chain as well as helping you get the tastiest, healthiest food into your diet.". They even have a Seasonal Food Calendar up on their site, worth checking!

Nude food also means less money taken from a school’s budget to deal with lunch-time waste, less litter blown into our waterways, and a generation of young people growing up more conscious about their impact on the environment - #winwin all around!
